Utilisation and conservation methods for fodder leaves from agroforestry systems to improve nutrient supply and reduce methane emissions of small ruminants (FuLaWi)
The project objectives are divided into three areas:
(i) development of harvesting and conservation methods for tree fodder to complement fresh tree fodder and ensure a year-round, species-appropriate diet for small ruminants,
(ii) enhancement of the digestibility of roughage, reduction of methane emissions and improvement of mineral supply to small ruminants through the supplementation of tree leaves.
(iii) expansion of knowledge on the added value of silvopastoral systems at demonstration sites and knowledge transfer into practice. This involves the establishment of agroforestry systems on agricultural farms, alongside laboratory and feeding trials, to ensure the greatest possible practical relevance.
The project is funded as part of research and development initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable nutrition for farm animals under changing climatic conditions in Modul A „Verbesserung der Umwelt- und Klimawirkung der Nutztierhaltung durch eine nachhaltige Tierernährung“ gefördert.
